No. 02 —Motion —Supporting Industry in Niagara Falls

Supporting Industry in the City of Niagara Falls
1. THAT Council send a letter to the Premier of Ontario, Minister of the Environment
Conservation and Parks, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing and Minister of
Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade requesting to provide support and built-
in protection for prior, existing manufacturing industry in our cities, therefore protecting
the jobs they provide and their ability to operate unfettered, while avoiding conflict with
surrounding residential encroachment. Recent examples include Salit Steel, Palfinger
and Oleo. We have to protect industry's rights at the same time as encouraging
residential development if industry is pre -established in the area;
2. THAT the Development's consultant communicate with the manufacturer so that they
have accurate information for their analysis for the peer review;
3. THAT staff communicate with the manufacturer early even if they are not in the
notification area to discuss the application;
4. THAT staff investigate how the D6 classification process could be more effective and not
just rely on the Developer's Consultant to determine the Class, which determines the
distance that residential could be located.
