WHEREAS in October 2008 the Niagara Health System (NHS) suffered a non - confidence vote by its
medical staff; and
WHEREAS the NHS has continued to operate at a deficit, with a projected $7 million dollar deficit
for the 2011 -2012 fiscal year; and
WHEREAS the Hospital Improvement Plan (HIP) for the NHS continues to call for the elimination
of essential services such as Pediatrics and Maternity at the Greater Niagara General Hospital site; and
WHEREAS the NHS continues to implement the HIP without the important dollars factored in for the
transportation costs, which are crucial for the residents of Niagara to access the Niagara Health
System's New Health -Care Complex; and
WHEREAS the leadership of the NHS and the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Local Health
Integration Network and the Minister of Health and Long -Term Care have not adequately responded
to the municipality's concerns to date; and
WHEREAS Kim Craitor M.P.P. recently announced his intention to lobby the Provincial government
to appoint an investigator, in light of the recent NHS deficit; and
WHEREAS Niagara Falls City Council has twice previously called on the Provincial government to
appoint an investigator.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City ofNiagara Falls supports the request of Kim Craitor,
M.P.P. calling on the Provincial government to appoint an independent investigator to conduct a review
of the management of the Niagara Health System.
