WHEREAS at Queen's Park,on November25,2013,the Provincial Legislature overwhelmingly supported
Dr. Kevin Smith's recommendation to consolidate the existing hospitals, in order to provide improved
quality health care for the residents, and construct a new hospital for Niagara South at the recommended
Niagara Falls site; and
WHEREAS the Provincial Government also announced the next step in the realization of the South
Niagara hospital in approving the planning grant; and
WHEREAS there is a responsibility of the local taxpayers to contribute to the capital cost of the new
Niagara South Hospital.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Niagara Falls City Council commit up to $22 million toward the
City of Niagara Falls' pro-rated share of the local contribution amount; and
FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that the local contribution amount be funded from the Ontario Lottery
& Gaming Corporation (OLG) Municipality Contribution Agreement; and
FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that City staff be directed to report back on an appropriate funding
schedule; and
FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that this resolution be forwarded to the Minister of Health and Long-
Term Care, the Honourable Deb Matthews, the municipalities of South Niagara, and the Niagara Health
System.
